#3: You only get what you give

Blog stats

Blog stats that have made me one happy writer! Image by WordPress 2015

I was just thinking that there wasn’t much happening on the Unibookworm front. That is until I checked my stats page (for some reason I never really did πŸ˜‰ To my utter surprise and amazement, the stats were amazing in July! If you didn’t know already, July is my absolute favourite month of the year and here’s more of a reason for it to be! I’m awestruck that I have readerships in the U.S. and Japan πŸ˜‰ Thank you to everyone who’s ever viewed my blog, it means a lot to me and has seriously made my day! And a special shoutout to my international readers! If you ever need anything or want to request a post on a specific topics, just let me know πŸ˜‰

Today’s song of the day is You Get what You Give by New Radicals πŸ˜‰ way back when in 1998. I like the Glee cover more than the orginal but if you have some aversion to Glee- have also included the original!

It’s the third official day of theme a day πŸ˜‰ and I realised something was missing. I forgot to explain the inspiration behind the theme of the day series!!! :$ How on earth did this happen? I only remembered last night cause I was…

Watching 800 words (and yes that’s a TV show!) Yep that’s right the inspiration for my daily blog series came from them. If you haven’t heard of the show, it’s an Australian/ New Zealand TV show that you can tune in on channel 7 Tuesday’s 8:40pm. Well actually the finale is next week, but thanks to today’s technology there’s catch up TV online!

I won’t give away too much about it, but in short it’s about George Turner a meticulous column writer of the 800 words feature. He’s meticulous as he actually does count the words that every article is in fact 800 words and will add or take to make it happen). The story is that he recently lost his wife Laura who tragically died in walk crossing. Haunted by the ghosts of the past, he decides to loot his kids- Shay and Arlo (awesome unique names and an adorkable sister and brother duo) to Weld (small town in New Zealand). Unbeknownst to them, George actually chose Weld so he could go surfing πŸ˜‰ Add in the mix of teenage drama, the outsiders, and comedy with George’s column writing commentary- you now have 800 words!

So after I watched the show, which was totally random by the way- saw the trailer earlier this year and didn’t really have the intention to watch it. But then after the first 10 minutes of the 1st episode, it actually was pretty interesting and got me hooked! But yes the idea of the theme of a day stemmed from the show πŸ˜‰ Which is definitely something different to what I envisioned I would be doing on my blog. In a good way though πŸ˜‰ And starting from today, I will be adding word of the day. So we’re getting, theme of the day and photo and word. Wow a writers paradise πŸ˜‰

The idea or notion of writing 800 words is strangely fascinating to me, as it’s 800 words of your opinion/thoughts/ experiences on a topic. 5-10 minutes of you πŸ˜‰ And for me personally, writers are great at writing but the paradox is always knowing when it’s finally finished and to stop writing. I know for me, that I can go on for ages and ages as wherever I think I’m finished, I always have the urge to add more. Which is why I always go over my word count for uni assignments and always end up condensing! So I figured why not add the 800 word mix to the Theme a Day series as a boundary? It will after all help me write within word limits and of course the longer the post- chances are by the time you finish the song of the day, you’ll have finished reading the post. I think the others were a bit shorter than the song. So that’s the grand plan!

Word of the day is…

Meticulous

Back to today’s theme of the day πŸ˜‰

Wherever you are right now , you are there for the reason.
You may not see it at this moment and understand why things aren’t working out. But know this…

Dreams and successes are not achieved overnight.
It’s a gradual process, where everyday you work bit by bit to make the dream a reality.
These small steps that you are taking are continually refining and growing you.

I like to think that the pursuing of your dream journey is like building a garden. You plant the seeds of your dreams and all the time, grit, determination you give actually waters the seeds to grow into blossoming flowers of reality. But for any garden to grow, with strong roots- you need fertile soil. And this comes from situations you’re in that don’t make sense right now but further down on the track they will (I promise, and I know cause I’ve been there). Their purpose is to make you more stronger and fired up with resilience, motivation, passion and drive to keep going even when it’s an audience of one. This process will be the making of you πŸ˜‰ and it all leads to dreams becoming a reality.

I don’t know where you are right now with your dreams.

But I’ll like to leave you with the inspirational lyrics from the song.
We are the dreamers.

But when the night is falling
You cannot find the light, light
You feel your dreams are dying
Hold tight

You’ve got the music in you
Don’t let go
You’ve got the music in you
One dance left
This world is gonna pull through
Don’t give up
You’ve got a reason to live
Can’t forget
We only get what we give

(New Radicals 1998, Get what you give lyrics)

And remember that naysayers, fear of failure and thoughts of oh no, I couldn’t possibly are all signs that you are headed towards the right dream πŸ˜‰ * This post is actually 1000 words, my one exception to the 800 words! If you’re like me and wanted to know.
