2018 New Year Resolutions – Part 1

New Year Resolutions 2018

2017 was a rough year of transition – ending the year with a bang. Me on NYE? Was pretty unforgettable. 2016 was the complete polar opposite. I was at my Youth Pastor’s house ringing in the New Year with their close friends. Never mind I had an introvert hangover (yes those are real! Just read IntrovertDear for proof) and pretty much missed the NYE fireworks!

I went to my guest room to blog, chatted to my guy best friend and then completely zoned! But nonetheless, it was a fun way to end 2016 (my favourite year ever! Sometimes I ask myself whether it really happened!). πŸ˜‰

This year though, thanks to my parents and wonderful housekeeping, I got a cough from staying in my old room! Which led to 2017 NYE feeling a little crappy:

πŸ˜… Iceblocks for my mozzie bites which honestly swelled like the size of golf balls!

πŸ˜… A sensitive cough triggered by dust.

Sure there were moments through the NYE long weekend where I felt a bit tad sorry for myself and wondering just why and when is this ever going to end? Nevertheless I was determined to have a positive and a fresh start to 2018 (and yes while I’m still recovering, I’m feeling a heck of a lot better than I was last week!)

One of the things that I was adament on was having a tidy and clean apartment πŸ˜‰ Since I couldn’t clean on Saturday thanks to my lovely mozzie bites (not to worry, after all I’ve been through I am now an expert! Unibookworm summer survival tips on the way!)- NYE was my cleaning day. Armed with determination, despite my medical issues- I was a girl on a mission! Result? Clean apartment, with the exception of the study area- I was sick after all. Bottom line, I don’t need a bigger place. 24sq metres is big enough for me with all this cleaning. Although my parents insist otherwise πŸ˜‰

But despite all the craziness, I was making 2018 New Year Resolutions and reflecting on the year that was (2017 Unibookworm Snapshot). And hey, it’s the crazy, wacky, the little unusual stories that we remember the most.

Like I said in my 2016 fail whale drive tests…

And that’s literally my life in a nutshell.

β€’Dream job? Had it for a year and 2 months before everything had changed. Sobs.

β€’Guy best friend? Sure! In his last 6 months in Melbourne. Never mind the fact he lives 11,358km & 17hrs from here- we also don’t have access to Skype & Whatsapp video chats or calls, so we can’t see or hear each other. Regardless, the magical friendship connection and bond is stronger than ever.

β€’New job? Comes with a pay rise and hey just a bit of reception and admin on the side of projects! Not. 6 months later, I’m like I’m literally the company’s head receptionist/admin assistant not a project officer. Hence the job hunt!

But honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way. Truth is that I’m hooked on living life on the edge, the unconventional, the ups & downs, the twists & turns. Cause that’s where I get my best inspiration to write from.

No one wants to read about the perfect life cause that would be boring & I would be craving excitement in no time at all. Cause that’s just me.

In fact, just as I was flicking through my Google Keep notes – found some much needed perspective that I wrote way back when in 2017 April! Sometimes the best advice is the ones I write myself that I forget about.

20 something life quotes

20 something life quotes

This will be my second last post reflecting on 2017, once I’m fully recovered – 2018 will have finally arrived for me πŸ˜‰

There’s a saying that people tend to say:

“We all have to move on. Because anything you remember is just nostalgia behind rose coloured lens.”

To this I will add, yes while this is true – to not live life in the past but in the present; Don’t forget the life lessons you went on before that led to where you are right now.

Live in the now, but don’t forget. Every season of life is different and unique, each bringing about new lessons and journeys. So it would seem unwise to just forget what we all been through & conquered for the notion of moving on!
