First stop – The delectable nut cart πŸ˜‰ akaΒ Chooh La LaΒ

Forget chestnuts roasting on an open fire, the sweet oh sweet aroma of caramel wins! Delectably drizzled all over peanuts, almonds and macadamias – it’s a true caramel nut haven dream πŸ˜‰ Β $5- $10 for these sweet treats is gold!

Caramel macadamias!

Caramel macadamias! Kinda dry on their own… But add them with a dash of soymilk with cereal and it is delish! =p

#2:Β Popstic Ice Cream

Why is it so hard to find Macadamia Nut caramel gourmet ice cream in Melbourne? Say no more! Popstic Ice Cream is one of the amazingly few and rare places who make it πŸ˜‰ While it’s a different take from Haagen Daaz, still pure ice-cream bliss. Once you taste the fresh goodness, you can never go back to the frozen aisle. Like ever.

#3: Hot apple cider @ Those Girls!

Never had apple cider before, let alone hot πŸ˜‰ Had my first cup yesterday and it was delish! Cross between a hot apple pie and freshly squeezed apple juice minus the added sugar. A lovely warming beverage in a cup with a difference. In fact, I’m craving some right now as I’m writing this post in these chilly winter nights.

Flashback moment

Flashback moment of the best apple cider ever, apparently it’s a New York thing. πŸ˜‰

#3: The BrΓ»lΓ©e Cart πŸ˜‰

All you need to know is that this is the best creme brΓ»lΓ©e ever @ $5! And a million times better than the pretentious dining jazz. Fresh. Delicious. With blowtorch magic right in front of you πŸ˜‰

#4: Time Out

Toasties!! ❀ them to bits. While they didn’t have pesto, cheese and tomato, they did have a sweet alternative. Brioche cheesy toastie! They had a whole range of other goodies too, mainly chocolate muffins, slices and alike. But it’s the hot chocolate that reigns supreme! None of this powdered cocolate stuff. Freshly melted cadbury milk and dark chocolate Β liquid gold with your favourite milk with a dash of a syrup base (caramel of course) πŸ˜‰ Hot chocolate haven =D

#5: Frencheese- the French- Swiss alps potato dish
Intrigued of the back story? Turns out this dish orginates from the middle border of France and Switzerland πŸ˜‰ When you put it like that, a tug a war of ownership is bound to happen. Till they settled on it’s a French-Swiss!

The menu

The delight of the dish is not only the flavour. It’s watching authentic French people prep your dish like a pro. From the seamless slicing of potatoes, the expertise swirling of the pan and of course the gourment gooeiness of the melted french cheese- stirring all Masterchef delights! Fresh and surprisingly not rich, it’s a wholesome dish that I’ll miss on my daily wanders in the River Rink Village πŸ˜‰

To add to the experience- when I was there, Swiss visitors who spoke French conversed with the Frencheese chef in excitement of what they were making πŸ˜‰ Ah nothing like a little Paris every day.

And lastly to those I didn’t get around to tasting, heard all good things about you πŸ˜‰

Melbourne you never fail to amaze or surprise me. In this River Rink Village, I feel like I’ve travel a million miles around the world without needing to leave the border. Paris. New York. Germany. Italy. All nestled right here in little Melbourne’s Fed Square.

Can’t wait for next year’s return! Thanks to all the stallholders for your amazing nosh (Brit word for food) and for all the wonderful conversations about your stories and passion for food and your company πŸ˜‰

** If you’re feeling peckish after this long-winded post about Melbourne foodies- it’s not too late! Last day to swing by the rink and gorge on all the food till 10pm tonight πŸ˜‰
