Slight delay in getting yesterday’s post up due to wi-fi issues, but all sorted now! Hope you’ve all enjoyed the first two entries for the A-Z blogging challenge πŸ˜‰ Onwards and upwards to Day #3! πŸ˜‰ A big shout out of thanks to my fellow readers from the challenge πŸ˜‰ Thanks for swinging by, I look forward to reading your entries too!

Carrots are more well known for their staple orange colour. But did you know that carrots were traditonally only purple, yellow and white? It was only way back in the 17th century where with a mix of genetically modified Dutchman work turned them orange with higher levels of beta-carotene! (red-orange colour pigment that converts into Vitamin A. How amazing is that? (Vanderlinden 2012)

Fun random facts about carrots

πŸ˜‰ Bugs Bunny catch up phrase What’s up Doc was always with a carrot in one hand. In fact I reckon it may have even influenced children to eat more carrots!

πŸ˜‰ Raw, cooked, roasted, boiled, sautΓ©ed- the carrot is the king of versatility in cooking in both savory and sweet!

πŸ˜‰ The best vegetable to improve your eyesight. skin & immune system-soak in the vitamin A goodness! πŸ˜‰ more for me please! (Nordquist 2014).

πŸ˜‰ Orange in honour of William of Orange (southern France area) (Vanderlinden 2012).

Looking forward to some sweet carrots cooked at their carrotey sweetest best this Autumn/Winter πŸ˜‰

Thank you for the bit of info with the bite of carrot. If you love carrots, you might dig the amazing carrot salad with harissa, feta and mint recipe on Smitten Kitchen’s site. I am not in any way affiliated, I just love it;) http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2010/05/carrot-salad-with-harissa-feta-and-mint/
