Continuing my review on The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and as promised here are my thoughts on the Life’s magazine motto!
I love this quote, without a doubt this will be my new mantra for 2016 ๐ (I’ll let you in a little secret, read it again and really let it sink in).
So what does this amazingly ridiculous cup of uppage actually mean?
Thought I’ll break it down in true Unibookworm style ๐
In true theme a day style, here’s our long awaited song of the day and word of the day! They’re back! ๐
Song of the day ๐
Of all places, I found it in a Starbucks YouTube promo on my Sunday morning ๐
How good was the song?!! The song is by Fremont, an awesome indie band in Portland ๐ They’re still fairly new, but in good time I’m sure they’ll be at the top of charts! After listening to Trees to Stone, I listened to the whole album on Spotify and it was amazing! In fact, I’ve had it on constant repeat since Monday and there’s not one song i don’t like. Their sound is unlike any other band I’ve ever heard with a touch of reminiscence and it’s like you’re coming home (which just so happens to be one of their songs).
Word of the day ๐
Of course it is! The #25 negative that Walter Mitty lost was the quintessence of life!
Onto the quote!
1. To see the world.
To me it means figuratively and literally.
Well… not every student can jetset across the world and go to places that they’ve never been before! Figuratively as in actually opening your eyes to see this life in colour (I may be quoting One Reupblic here!) ๐
Train station where you routinely just walk and out of? No. It’s Melbourne first off offical train station filled with years and years of heritage of a ballroom, library, gym and a rooftop garden and beatitifully decorated for Queen’s Elizabeth. While it remains closed today, the intriguement, wonder and magic aura still stands.
A long 50 minute tram ride to get home?
It’s really a 50 minute scenic route showing the best that Melbourne has to offer. Let your imagination run wild just like Walter Mitty’s daydreams.
2. Things dangerous to come to.
All signs point to living outside your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to jump and fall.ย Just like Todd from e-Harmony asks, Have you been or done anything noteworthy or mentionable?
Mitty goes off to:
โข Jumping out of the helicopter
โข Fighting a shark
โข Skateboarding all the way down the long winding rocky road to an erupting volcano (partly because he didn’t know what eldegos meant in Icelandic, FYI it’s means eruption!)
โข Climbing up the Himalayas
And ultimately becoming an adrenaline junkie.
Now it might not be as extreme as the above, but what things have you always ย said…
I should but I couldn’t possibly.ย I could but I can’t possibly.
Do them! In this life, nothing safe is worth the drive.
As Mark Twain so eloquently points out…
3. To see behind walls.
Everything you could and can be ๐ Too often the walls that as surround us are the ones we built ourselves. Or the latter, missed life opportunities all pointed to it’s not meant to be, simply because others told you no.
Now’s the time to break free! Of the limitations, doubts, fears and insecurities and to just take a leap of faith and jump! You may even surprise yourself of what you are truly capable of ๐ Because you’re not really living your life if the couldas and shouldas are resounding voices in your mind.
Even though you’re not where you want to be in life right now, keep dreaming BIG, make plans and do them!
Adventure awaits you!
4. To draw closer.
No it’s not just relationship love that this quote is referring to.
It’s drawing closer to want you to be.
Closer to where you should be.
Closer to what you were created to be.
To leave this world a lighter and brighter, simply because you were in it to change the lives of those around you ๐
Closer to your dreams becoming a reality,
To everything you can be and do.
To the ones who add a sparkle of life.
Who challenge you to be better.
To pull you back up when you fall.
In the every day ups and downs on life.
5. To find each other.
People who inspire you- mentors.
To inspire others- mentees.
The ones who pull us through the good and bad times- family and friends.
6. And to feel =)
We’re not robots. So we’re not really living if we’re just going through the motions of life monotonously! We’re human beings with feelings.
This life is about…
Feeling music through your soul
Life breathed into your every day routine.
Joy– of where you are right now, content of now.
Hope– for the best that is yet to come.
Happiness =) of doing what you love.
Passion– for the drive of your life ๐
Love– for others, family, friends, significant others and for what you do.
The little joys of life. Master these 6 small little things and you will be fulfilled beyond anything you could have ever imagined ๐ Instead of waiting when, when, when? It’s now, now, now! For you to be truly happy =)
I really really really really really enjoyed this! Great job!
