Summer fun

Summer Fun in Melbourne by Fed Square 2016

How time has flown! Already the end of the very first month of 2016 😱😱

Not to worry though, Summer is still here for another month 😉 and I must say Melbourne has epic Summers! Partly because we still have this crazy 4 season weather, (just yesterday we had a downpour of rain storms!) but mainly because we have the awesome City of Melbourne tourism!

Slide the square

Starting off we had the epic Slide the Square at Federation square! (*Sadly for only 2 weeks- guess they wanted to make room for the Australia Tennis Open crowds where the tournaments broadcast live every day on the huge projection screen). Federation Square is Melbourne’s kind of New York Times Square & Rome’s Spanish Steps- the central point to meet up people and chill just across the road the heritage Flinders St station (an interesting history post to come!).

In case you didn’t have a chance to be on it (ditto me), here it is! 😉

Pretty awesome huh? I did manage to swing by to visit Slide the Square on the second week, but of course the day I choose to turn up they basically deflated the whole thing cause of storm warnings! But although I didn’t see the slide in it’s former glory, thanks to social media I can 😉

Slide the square in it’s full glory! Thanks to FedSquare Twitter 😉

The epic slide

Ready. Set. Dip and go! Slide the Square by Federation Square Melbourne 2016

It would have been amazing to see it, let alone just to ride it 😉 I mean seriously here you are just walking about the city and right smack in the middle of the Fed Square there’s a massive slide! I actually thought it was only for kids, but adults could ride too =) woohoo! The price of the tickets included fluoro floaties and 50 minutes in the 75 metres long as slide! The best thing? All the water used from the slide would be reused into the Fed Square gardens 😉 Just shows how sustainable Melbourne is growing to be.

And just when you thought the summer fun had to end, Melbourne Star has bought on Water Wars! (*Clearly a play on Star Wars 😉 If you don’t know the background story. Melbourne Star is London’s Eye look a like. Only thing was after being open in 2008, it shut down in 40 days long cause it couldn’t cope with the intense heat (Wikipedia 2016). After that some repairs were in the works and eventually the hype died down. Fast forward 5 years, the wheel just stayed there incomplete without moving with people criticising it as Melbourne most failed whale tourism on display. Until after all the delays and the waiting- it was back up and running (with a few kinks of course).

Let the battle commence! Water Wars by Melbourne Star 2016

Sorry for the less than stellar photos, not much around! It’s more exciting than it looks 😉

Now this one is only for kids, but still netherless fun to write about! Imagine water battles with buckets loads of water balloons ready to deploy with a super speedy launcher. Release the balloons and watch it soar and duck! It’s anybody’s game where you’ll get completely drenched, soaked and wet from top to toe 😉 and best of all, it’s a family friendly budget activity that’s only $5-$6! How cool is that?

So there you have it folks, the top 2 Melbourne cool Summer fun activities for me this year 😉 Can’t wait to see next year’s events! What does your city have this summer to keep cool?
