Blended movie review =)

on January 25, 2016

It’s finally here! The first ever Movie Addicts Union movie review πŸ˜‰ (* added bonus of spoiler free). This Friday in my DVD player was the hilariously funny family movie – Blended. πŸ˜‰

Pretty epic huh? I’m so glad to say I was not disappointed. In fact it was even more better than I imagined full of surprises πŸ˜‰ It’s Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler’s best duo movie yet! If you loved 50 First Dates or the old school, The Wedding Singer – definitely a must see!

The scene:

The storyline is actually quite unconventional with the bulk of the movie set in Africa. And the scenery and music was incredible. Sure there was the beautiful real life safari scenes. But it was the majestic hotel architecture of Palace of the Lost City (Sun City) that I was awestruck at! Seriously, it looked like an actual Kingdom/castle for a hotel!! With elephant sized entrance fountains, the lobby reaching endless heights with glamour and class and the dining area didn’t look an inch out of place πŸ˜‰ Forget 5 stars Oz Hotels, this was an epic 7 million stars hotel rating!!

Now that the scene is set, let’s talk main cast & the storyline πŸ˜‰

Drew Barrymore at the blind date
Blended 2014

Drew Barrymore as Lauren Reynolds. I actually haven’t seen Drew’s child acting movies but knew her from Charlie’s Angels. Even then in the action packed movie, she’s always had this girl next door aura about her. So it’s no wonder that she’s aged gracefully and still in fact looks so young! ( As her son Tyler repeats in Blended multiple times πŸ˜‰ Credited to her girl to next door personaility, you can’t help but like her character no matter what movie it is!

Adam Sandler as Jim Friedman. if you don’t know Adam Sandler…

Adam Sandler

I’m pretty sure you must live under aΒ rock!

He’s been in countless of comedy flicks from Bedtime storiesΒ to Click to the animated world of Hotel Transylvania πŸ˜‰Β What most people don’t know is that his wife Jackie, actually stars in all his movies noticeably in the background.

Bella Thorne

Bella Thorne Blended 2016

Bella Thorne as Hilary aka Larry (Jim’s oldest daughter). Β Best known from Disney Channel’s Shake it up. She’s also been on the big screens for Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and the Duff ( admittedly kinda of superficial roles) So it actually was really nice for a change to see her play an adorkable shy character. And I’m sure in real life, she’s just as nice! πŸ˜‰

The main storyline (free of spoilers πŸ˜‰

Meet Lauren Reynolds (Drew Barrymore) owner of Closet Queens, recent divorcee with 2 kids- Brendan (her oldest) and Tyler (the young boy full of energy!). Enter Jim Friedman (Adam Sandler) recently lost his wife to cancer but has a 3 girls who brightens his day – Hillary (Bella Thorne) aka ‘Larry’, Espn (yes she’s actually named after Jim’s favourite channel) and the youngest Lou. The Reynolds boys dream nothing better than their parents getting back together. While the Friedman girls are just dying to have some girly guidance back in the house πŸ˜‰ With a Dad owning a sport store and knowing absolutely nada about raising girls – it’s no surprise he takes them to a barber for their haircuts and gives them sport clothes!

They meet on a blind date at Hooters and it was an epic fail. Thinking that they would never ever see each other again, they both just chalked it up as a bad experience. But in a twist of fate, they both end up taking their family to Africa. For the familymoon holiday of course! (*That’s where the movie name comes from – Blended families).

Lauren ended up bagging the trip when her business partner Jen broke up with her boyfriend. While Jim bought it off from his boss (who happens to be Jen’s boyfriend). Enter a world of mishaps and adventures in the midst of crazy blended families in the beautiful and breathtaking Africa scenery. Will the Reynolds and Freidmans mesh well together or will chaos reign?Β

You’ll have to check it out for yourself to find out!

My personal favourites of the movie were…

Most anticipated – Larry aka Hilary aka Bella Thorne’s makeover!
Loved how the characters reacted with having different songs in their minds. Which doubled back for Lauren’s makeover, hilarious!

The best- Drew flying up in the sky over the African Safari tour πŸ˜‰

All in all, a movie filled with fun, laughter and family moments- you can’t go wrong with this lighthearted movie.

Overall rating: 4.5 πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ ; out of 5

*The only thing that I wasn’t such a big fan was the musical numbers in between (not really my style of liking). Actually found myself fast forwarding to skip it! On the side note, I also felt that the movie was quite fast paced/rushed, there wasn’t much scenes to build the usual Barrymore/Sandler chemistry! Other than that, a pretty awesome movie!
