One the most tricky things about setting into uni life is getting all the IT stuff sorted. But the problem is knowing what you actually need! Welcome to Deakin IT headquarters, where I’ve included the bare minimum checklist for all the tech stuff you’ll need for your time at Deakin πŸ˜‰ Click on the links for instructions on how to set it up & you’re good to go!

1. Connecting to wi-fiΒ

Wi-fi

Setting up the wi-fi on your iPhone/iPad/iPod & windows laptop is easy as. It’s the macs that usually have issues connecting to wi-fi . But thankfully Deakin IT has fixed that in T2! But if you’re still having issues, swing by the IT help desk and they’ll get it all sorted for you.

You’ll only need to setup the Deakin setup once for the first time you use the uni wi-fi. After that eduroam is the default wi-fi connect and it’ll automatically remember your deakin username & password πŸ˜‰

2. Print @ Deakin from your laptop

Once you’ve set up the wi-fi, you might as well set up the printing at Deakin software so you can print directly from your laptop! =)

3. Download Microsoft Office 365 for free!

Brought a new laptop but don’t have the funds to buy the Office 365?

No worries. As a deakin student, you can download Office Suite 2013 that includes the usual Word, Excel, PowerPoint all FOR FREE! (*Only lasts for the duration when you’re student at deakin).

4. Setting up the virtual tute room @ Blackboard Collaborate

Last but not least, for online subjects- you’ll need to set up the Blackboard

Collaborate program. It’s essentially a virtual classroom where you can instant message your lecturer & classmates with a whiteboard where you can write stuff up for all to see!
